Methylprednisolone

A synthetic corticosteroid made by adding a methyl group to prednisolone, approved in the United States in 1957. It is used for many inflammatory, allergic and autoimmune diseases, including at high intravenous doses. This family brings together the active ingredient, pharmacopoeial impurities, metabolites, labelled standards and other impurities.

Did you know?It descends from cortisone: for their discoveries on the hormones of the adrenal cortex, Philip Hench, Edward Kendall and Tadeus Reichstein received the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1950.
