Midodrine
A prodrug that constricts blood vessels by acting on alpha-1 receptors, known since the early 1970s and introduced in the United States in 1996: it is used for orthostatic hypotension, the drop in blood pressure that occurs on standing up. This family brings together the active ingredient, pharmacopoeial impurities, labelled standards and other impurities.
Did you know?On its own it is almost inactive: in the body it loses a residue of the amino acid glycine and becomes desglymidodrine, the true active molecule, which barely enters the brain.
