Mitapivat
The first oral pyruvate kinase activator, approved in 2022 in the United States and the European Union for haemolytic anaemia due to pyruvate kinase deficiency and, in 2025, in the United States for anaemia in thalassaemia. This family brings together the active ingredient, labelled standards and other impurities.
Did you know?Instead of blocking an enzyme, as many drugs do, it activates one: by boosting pyruvate kinase it raises ATP, the energy reserve of red blood cells, and lowers 2,3-DPG.
