Mitiglinide

A glinide (meglitinide) for type 2 diabetes, approved in Japan in 2004 and in China in 2009 (launched in China in September 2010): it closes potassium channels in the pancreatic beta cells, triggering a rapid, short release of insulin to control blood sugar after meals. This family brings together the active ingredient, metabolites, labelled standards and other impurities.

Did you know?Chemically it is built from benzylsuccinic acid and a perhydroisoindole ring: a structure completely different from the sulfonylureas, which act on the same channel.
