Naltrexone
A long-acting opioid antagonist, synthesised in 1963 and approved in the United States in 1984: it is used to treat opioid dependence and, since the mid-1990s, alcohol dependence. This family brings together the active ingredient, pharmacopoeial impurities, metabolites, labelled standards and other impurities.
Did you know?It is an almost 'pure' antagonist: it binds opioid receptors without activating them and displaces molecules already bound there, with a long-lasting effect.
