Neomycin

An aminoglycoside antibiotic discovered in 1949 by Selman Waksman and Hubert Lechevalier at Rutgers University, produced by the soil bacterium Streptomyces fradiae; it is used in creams, eye drops and by mouth. This family brings together the active ingredient, pharmacopoeial impurities, labelled standards and other impurities.

Did you know?In molecular biology the neomycin resistance gene (neo) is one of the most used markers: cells that received it survive the antibiotic G418, the others do not.
