Netilmicin
A semisynthetic aminoglycoside antibiotic, patented in 1973 and approved for medical use in 1981: it is used for serious infections, including those caused by Gram-negative bacteria resistant to gentamicin. This family brings together the active ingredient, pharmacopoeial impurities and labelled standards.
Did you know? Its chemical name, 1-N-ethylsisomicin, tells its origin: it is sisomicin, a natural antibiotic made by bacteria of the genus Micromonospora, with an extra ethyl group.
