Nitroxynil
A veterinary antiparasitic developed in the mid-1960s, given by subcutaneous injection to cattle and sheep against liver fluke disease, caused by the adult and immature forms of the fluke Fasciola hepatica. This family brings together the active ingredient and labelled standards.
Did you know?It is a phenol carrying an iodine atom and a nitro group: it works by uncoupling oxidative phosphorylation, in other words shutting down energy (ATP) production in the parasite's cells.
