Norgestimate
A synthetic progestin used only together with an oestrogen: in the contraceptive pill with ethinylestradiol and in menopausal therapy with estradiol. Patented in 1965, it entered contraceptive pills in 1986. This family brings together the active ingredient, pharmacopoeial impurities, labelled standards and other impurities.
Did you know?It is a prodrug: almost none reaches the blood intact, because it is converted at once mainly into norelgestromin and partly into levonorgestrel.
