Pemetrexed

A multitargeted antifolate that blocks several enzymes cells need to build DNA. Devised by chemist Edward C. Taylor at Princeton University, it was approved in the United States in 2004 for pleural mesothelioma and later for lung cancer. This family brings together the active ingredient, pharmacopoeial impurities, nitrosamines and other impurities.

Did you know?It all began with butterflies: folic acid contains a chemical ring previously seen only in their wing pigments, and Taylor devoted himself to that chemistry. Royalties from the drug later funded Princeton's new chemistry building.
