Pentagastrin
A synthetic five-amino-acid peptide that mimics the hormone gastrin: developed in the 1960s, it was used to measure stomach acid secretion and to stimulate calcitonin in the diagnosis of medullary thyroid carcinoma. This family brings together the active ingredient.
Did you know? The full range of actions of gastrin, a much longer hormone, is reproduced by its last four amino acids (Trp-Met-Asp-Phe): pentagastrin contains exactly this sequence.
