Pentoxifylline
A xanthine derivative, the same family as caffeine and theobromine, approved in the United States in 1984: it is used to relieve leg pain and cramps in intermittent claudication caused by peripheral artery disease. This family brings together the active ingredient, pharmacopoeial impurities, labelled standards, nitrosamines and other impurities.
Did you know?Rather than widening the vessels it acts on the blood: it makes red blood cells more deformable and the blood less viscous, so it flows better even through the smallest vessels.
