Phenprocoumon

A coumarin anticoagulant and vitamin K antagonist, developed in 1953 by the team of chemist Alfred Winterstein and patented in 1955, decades before the direct factor Xa inhibitors that came into use around 2010. This family brings together the active ingredient, labelled standards and other impurities.

Did you know?It stays in the body for a long time: its average half-life is about 150 hours, six to seven days, compared with about 40 for warfarin, and it takes about four weeks for its blood levels to reach a steady state.
