Piperacillin

A broad-spectrum penicillin of the ureidopenicillin class, active even against Pseudomonas aeruginosa: patented in 1974 and in use since 1981, it is used together with tazobactam in severe infections. This family brings together the active ingredient, pharmacopoeial impurities, labelled standards and other impurities.

Did you know?It is born from ampicillin by adding a polar piperazine ring, which helps it get into Gram-negative bacteria. Its partner tazobactam acts as a shield, binding tightly to the beta-lactamases that would destroy it.
