Ractopamine

A beta-agonist used as a feed additive to obtain leaner carcasses with less feed, approved in the United States in 1999 for pigs, in 2003 for cattle and in 2008 for turkeys. This family brings together the active ingredient, labelled standards, nitrosamines and other impurities.

Did you know?It is a positional isomer of dobutamine, a medicine used to support the heart: same atoms, arranged differently. The commercial product is a mixture of all four of its stereoisomers.
