Ramipril
An ACE inhibitor patented in 1981 and in use since 1989: it is a prodrug that the body converts into active ramiprilat, and is used for high blood pressure, heart failure and cardiovascular prevention. This family brings together the active ingredient, pharmacopoeial impurities, metabolites, labelled standards, nitrosamines, other impurities and synthesis intermediates.
Did you know?It becomes active only when an enzyme, carboxylesterase 1, cuts off its ethyl ester group: this exposes a carboxylate that grips the zinc ion at the heart of the ACE enzyme.
