Ranitidine
A histamine H2 receptor antagonist that reduces stomach acid, created in England in the late 1970s and introduced in 1981: for decades it was used against ulcers and reflux. This family brings together the active ingredient, pharmacopoeial impurities, labelled standards, nitrosamines and other impurities.
Did you know?It was created by replacing the imidazole ring of cimetidine, the first H2 antagonist in clinical use, with a furan ring: by 1987 it was the world's best-selling prescription medicine.
