Secophenol

A steroid with an 'opened' B ring (a seco-androstane) and an A ring that has become aromatic, also known as 3-HSA: it is a step in the pathway by which bacteria such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis break down cholesterol, a pathway that contributes to the bacterium's ability to cause disease. This family brings together the active ingredient and other impurities.

Did you know?In Rhodococcus jostii bacteria lacking the enzyme HsaA, which turns it into a catechol, the molecule builds up and growth on cholesterol stops: without this step cholesterol cannot be 'eaten'.
