Silybin
A flavonolignan, a mixture of silybin A and B, and the active ingredient of silymarin extracted from the fruits of milk thistle (Silybum marianum); it is used to protect the liver and, intravenously, in Amanita mushroom poisoning. This family brings together the active ingredient, labelled standards and other impurities.
Did you know? The name marianum comes from a Christian tradition: the white blotches on the leaves are said to be drops of the Virgin Mary's milk, spilled while she nursed Jesus during the Flight into Egypt.
