Sultamicillin
An oral antibiotic that joins ampicillin and the beta-lactamase inhibitor sulbactam into a single molecule; patented in 1979 and approved in 1987, it is used for respiratory, urinary, skin and soft tissue infections. This family brings together the active ingredient, pharmacopoeial impurities and other impurities.
Did you know?It is a mutual prodrug: the two molecules are joined by a methylene bridge that enzymes in the gut wall break, releasing ampicillin and sulbactam in equal amounts.
