Temocillin
A semi-synthetic penicillin, the 6-alpha-methoxy derivative of ticarcillin, introduced in the 1980s in Belgium and the United Kingdom; it is active against many Gram-negative bacteria such as Enterobacterales, even when they produce extended-spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBL). This family brings together the active ingredient.
Did you know? Its strength is a small methoxy group that, through steric hindrance, stops beta-lactamases from breaking it down: after years in the shadows, in 2009 an editorial greeted its comeback with the title "Temocillin revived".
