Teniposide
A semi-synthetic chemotherapy drug derived from podophyllotoxin, extracted from the rhizome of Podophyllum peltatum: it blocks topoisomerase II and is used against leukaemias and other tumours, including childhood cancers; in Europe it has been in use since the 1970s, while in the United States it was approved in 1992. This family brings together the active ingredient and other impurities.
Did you know?It is almost a twin of etoposide: the two molecules differ only by a thiophene ring, present in teniposide in place of a methyl group.
