Testosterone

The main male sex hormone, isolated in 1935 and synthesised the same year. It is used in replacement therapy, also as long-acting esters. This family brings together the active ingredient, pharmacopoeial impurities, metabolites, labelled standards and other impurities.

Did you know?To isolate about ten milligrams, Ernst Laqueur's Dutch team processed some hundred kilos of bull testes; a few months later Butenandt and Ruzicka published its synthesis.
