Tocopherol
The main form of vitamin E, a fat-soluble antioxidant that protects cell membranes from free radicals; its existence was deduced in 1922 by Herbert Evans and the molecule was isolated from wheat germ in 1936. This family brings together the active ingredient, pharmacopoeial impurities, labelled standards and other impurities.
Did you know? Its name comes from the Greek tókos (birth) and phérein (to bear): it was discovered because rats fed without it had no offspring, while wheat germ restored their fertility.
