Tolcapone
An inhibitor of COMT, the enzyme that breaks down levodopa: introduced in Europe in 1997 and in the United States in 1998, it is used alongside levodopa in Parkinson's disease to prolong its effect. This family brings together the active ingredient, pharmacopoeial impurities, metabolites, labelled standards and other impurities.
Did you know?It is an intensely yellow, odourless and bitter crystalline powder: its metabolites, also yellow, can harmlessly colour the urine.
