Troleandomycin
A semi-synthetic macrolide antibiotic prepared in the late 1950s by adding three acetyl groups to oleandomycin, which is produced by the bacterium Streptomyces antibioticus: it blocks bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the ribosome. This family brings together the active ingredient.
Did you know? Its parent, oleandomycin, was discovered in 1954, in the same years as erythromycin and spiramycin; pure troleandomycin forms practically tasteless crystals.
