Tylosin

A macrolide antibiotic for veterinary use only, isolated in 1961 from the soil bacterium Streptomyces fradiae: it is used in pigs, cattle, poultry and dogs, especially against mycoplasma infections. This family brings together the active ingredient, pharmacopoeial impurities, labelled standards and other impurities.

Did you know? The bacterial strain that produces it was found in a soil sample collected in Thailand; in the lab, tylosin is also used to study how ribosomes make proteins.
