Vindesine
A semisynthetic vinca alkaloid that blocks tubulin and therefore cell division: developed in the 1970s, it is used with other chemotherapy drugs for leukaemias, lymphomas, melanoma and lung cancer. This family brings together the active ingredient and pharmacopoeial impurities.
Did you know?It comes from the Madagascar periwinkle (Catharanthus roseus), the ornamental plant that yields vinblastine and vincristine: vindesine is made by chemically modifying vinblastine.
