Voglibose
An intestinal alpha-glucosidase inhibitor born in Japan: it slows down the digestion of sugars and blunts blood glucose peaks after meals in type 2 diabetes. It is one of only three medicines of this class used in clinical practice. This family brings together the active ingredient, labelled standards and other impurities.
Did you know?It derives from valiolamine, an amino pseudo-sugar first isolated in 1984 from the fermentation broth of a bacterium, Streptomyces hygroscopicus subsp. limoneus.
