Zonisamide
A sulphonamide-structured antiepileptic, discovered in 1972 and first marketed in Japan in 1989, then in the United States in 2000 and in Europe in 2005: it is used for focal seizures. This family brings together the active ingredient, pharmacopoeial impurities, metabolites, labelled standards and other impurities.
Did you know?Chemically it resembles no other antiepileptic; and in 2009 in Japan it also began to be used in Parkinson's disease, together with levodopa, to improve motor symptoms.
