Ascorbic Acid

Vitamin C, a water-soluble antioxidant essential for making collagen: its name means against scurvy, the disease caused by its deficiency. Albert Szent-Györgyi isolated it in 1928 and in 1937 received the Nobel Prize, partly for this work. This family brings together the active ingredient, pharmacopoeial impurities, labelled standards and other impurities.

Did you know?In 1932 in Szeged, Hungary, a major paprika-growing centre, Szent-Györgyi found that these peppers are extremely rich in it: within a week his team obtained more than a kilo of pure crystals.
