Captopril

The first orally active ACE inhibitor, synthesised in 1975 by Miguel Ondetti, Bernard Rubin and David Cushman and approved in the United States in 1981; it is used for high blood pressure and heart failure. This family brings together the active ingredient, pharmacopoeial impurities, labelled standards and other impurities.

Did you know?It was born from the venom of the Brazilian pit viper Bothrops jararaca, in which pharmacologist Sérgio Ferreira had discovered peptides that enhance bradykinin and block the ACE enzyme.
