Carmustine

An alkylating agent of the nitrosourea family, developed in the 1960s within the US National Cancer Institute's anticancer programme and approved in 1977: it is used for brain tumours, lymphomas and multiple myeloma. This family brings together the active ingredient and nitrosamines.

Did you know?Since 1996 it has also come as biodegradable polymer wafers, devised by Henry Brem and Robert Langer, which the neurosurgeon leaves in the cavity after removing the tumour: the drug is released slowly right where it is needed.
