Dapsone
A sulfone antibacterial used against leprosy since 1945; together with a gluten-free diet it is also used for dermatitis herpetiformis, and as a second-line option against Pneumocystis pneumonia. This family brings together the active ingredient, pharmacopoeial impurities, metabolites, labelled standards and other impurities.
Did you know?It was synthesised in 1908 by chemists Fromm and Wittmann as a simple chemical compound and studied as an antibiotic only in 1937; it still has an industrial use too, as a curing agent for epoxy resins.
