Doxofylline
A bronchodilator of the xanthine family, a theophylline derivative carrying a dioxolane ring: synthesised in Italy in the early 1960s and developed as a medicine in the late 1970s, it is used for asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. This family brings together the active ingredient, labelled standards and other impurities.
Did you know?Compared with theophylline it has much lower affinity for adenosine receptors, the binding blamed for part of the parent drug's unwanted effects.
