Droxidopa
A synthetic amino acid that the body converts into noradrenaline. In use in Japan since 1989 and approved in the United States in 2014, it treats neurogenic orthostatic hypotension, the drop in blood pressure on standing seen in disorders of the autonomic nervous system such as multiple system atrophy. This family brings together the active ingredient, pharmacopoeial impurities, labelled standards and other impurities.
Did you know?It is also known as L-DOPS. Unlike noradrenaline it can cross the blood-brain barrier, and it is converted by the same enzyme that turns levodopa into dopamine, DOPA decarboxylase.
