Fosfomycin
An antibiotic that blocks the enzyme MurA, the first step in building the bacterial cell wall. It was discovered in cultures of the soil bacterium Streptomyces fradiae by Spanish and American researchers, who published it in 1969; it is used, among other things, for cystitis. This family brings together the active ingredient, pharmacopoeial impurities, labelled standards, nitrosamines and other impurities.
Did you know? The producing strain came from a soil sample collected in 1966 along the road from Jávea to Gata de Gorgos, in the province of Alicante, and was isolated by Spanish microbiologist Sagrario Mochales.
