Hydrocortisone
It is cortisol, the stress hormone made by the adrenal glands, isolated in the 1930s. It is used to replace the hormone when it is missing and to switch off inflammation and allergies. This family brings together the active ingredient, pharmacopoeial impurities, metabolites, labelled standards and other impurities.
Did you know?Research on adrenal hormones won Kendall, Hench and Reichstein the 1950 Nobel Prize in Medicine: the first patient treated with cortisone, in 1948, had severe rheumatoid arthritis and was walking again within days.
