Ivermectin
An antiparasitic derived from the avermectins, produced by the soil bacterium Streptomyces avermitilis: introduced in veterinary medicine in the early 1980s, in humans it is used against onchocerciasis (river blindness), filariasis, strongyloidiasis and scabies. This family brings together pharmacopoeial impurities, labelled standards and other impurities.
Did you know? The bacterium it comes from was isolated by Satoshi Ōmura from a soil sample collected at the edge of a golf course in Kawana, Japan: for this discovery he shared the 2015 Nobel Prize in Medicine with William Campbell.
