Levocarnitine

The natural (L) form of carnitine, a substance found mainly in meat: it carries long-chain fatty acids across the mitochondrial membrane, where they are burned to produce energy. It was isolated in 1905 from meat extracts. This family brings together the active ingredient, pharmacopoeial impurities, labelled standards and other impurities.

Did you know?In 1948, while studying mealworm larvae used as fish food, researchers found an essential nutritional factor they called 'vitamin BT' (T for Tenebrio molitor): in 1952 it turned out to be carnitine.
