Loperamide
An antidiarrhoeal that acts on opioid receptors in the gut wall, slowing down its movements: synthesised in Belgium in 1969 and in use since the 1970s. This family brings together the active ingredient, pharmacopoeial impurities, metabolites, labelled standards, nitrosamines and other impurities.
Did you know?Although it is a chemical relative of the opioids, at normal doses it does not reach the brain: a pump in the blood-brain barrier, P-glycoprotein, sends it straight back out.
