Mebrofenin
An iminodiacetic acid derivative that, bound to technetium-99m, allows the liver, gallbladder and bile ducts to be imaged by hepatobiliary scintigraphy; approved in the United States in 1987. This family brings together the active ingredient and other impurities.
Did you know? Its structure resembles that of lidocaine, the local anaesthetic: in the diagnostic complex two of these molecules surround a technetium-99m atom, which is taken up almost entirely by the liver.
