Methotrexate
An antifolate that blocks the enzyme dihydrofolate reductase, in use since the late 1940s: born to fight childhood leukaemia, today it is used in oncology and, at low doses, for rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis. This family brings together the active ingredient, pharmacopoeial impurities, labelled standards, nitrosamines and other impurities.
Did you know?In 1956 Min Chiu Li and Roy Hertz used it against choriocarcinoma, a cancer of the placenta: some patients with metastases were completely cured, the first time chemotherapy had cured a metastatic cancer.
