Methyldopa
A centrally acting antihypertensive, an alpha-2 adrenergic receptor agonist, discovered in 1960; it is still one of the preferred drugs for high blood pressure in pregnancy. This family brings together the active ingredient, pharmacopoeial impurities, labelled standards and other impurities.
Did you know?It is a 'false precursor': in the brain it is converted into alpha-methylnoradrenaline, which activates alpha-2 receptors and curbs the release of the nerve signals that raise blood pressure.
