Moxidectin
A semisynthetic antiparasitic of the milbemycin family, used in veterinary medicine since 1990 and approved in the United States in 2018 for onchocerciasis, the "river blindness" caused by a worm spread by blackflies, from 12 years of age. This family brings together the active ingredient, pharmacopoeial impurities, labelled standards and other impurities.
Did you know? The bacterium that yields its parent molecule, Streptomyces cyanogriseus, was discovered in an Australian soil sample; and in Australia the drug is also used to treat mange in wombats.
