Pepsin

One of the main digestive enzymes of the stomach: it breaks proteins into smaller peptides and works best in stomach acid. It was discovered in 1836 by German physiologist Theodor Schwann, who named it after the Greek pepsis, digestion. This family brings together the active ingredient.

Did you know?It also works outside the body: it is part of the rennet used to make cheese and has been used to recover silver from photographic film.
