Pralidoxime
An antidote for organophosphate pesticide poisoning, synthesised in the mid-1950s at Columbia University in New York by Irwin Wilson and Sara Ginsburg: it is an oxime that pulls the phosphate off acetylcholinesterase and reactivates the enzyme, and is used together with atropine. This family brings together the active ingredient and other impurities.
Did you know?It all began with an observation in 1951: Wilson noticed that a very simple molecule, hydroxylamine, could reactivate the blocked enzyme, and from there he looked for more powerful reactivators.
