An anticonvulsant related to the barbiturates: its efficacy was shown in 1949 by Yule Bogue and in 1950 it came onto the market in the United Kingdom and Germany; today it is also used for essential tremor. This family brings together the active ingredient, pharmacopoeial impurities and labelled standards.
Did you know?In the body it is partly converted into phenobarbital, another anticonvulsant; its effect on essential tremor was reported in 1981, starting from the observation of a single patient.
