Propofol
A fast-acting intravenous anaesthetic used to induce and maintain general anaesthesia and for sedation. Its properties were discovered by John Glen in the United Kingdom in 1973; it reached the operating theatre in 1986. This family brings together the active ingredient, pharmacopoeial impurities, metabolites, labelled standards and other impurities.
Did you know? Its milky white look, due to the soybean oil emulsion that makes it injectable, and how little patients remember afterwards earned it the nickname 'milk of amnesia'. In 2018 John Glen received the Lasker Award.
