Rabeprazole
A proton pump inhibitor that reduces acid production in the stomach: patented in 1986, approved in Japan in 1997 and in the United States in 1999, it is used for ulcers, gastro-oesophageal reflux and eradication of Helicobacter pylori. This family brings together the active ingredient, pharmacopoeial impurities, labelled standards, nitrosamines, other impurities and synthesis intermediates.
Did you know? Its main route of breakdown in the body needs no enzymes: it is chemically reduced to a thioether, while the liver enzymes CYP2C19 and CYP3A4 play only a secondary role.
